“I look forward to Makio bringing additional momentum to our already well established and respected Japan franchise. The confluence of corporate governance reform, market structure change, and more CEOs shifting from defense to offense in their growth strategies makes this an exciting time to be an investor in Japan; in fact, the most exciting in our 25 years on the ground,” said Byron Gill Managing Partner of Indus Capital.
Mr. Inui brings to Indus more than two decades of experience in venture finance, equity analysis and investment banking, working in Tokyo and Hong Kong. He previously served as the Chief Financial Officer of Paidy and INFORICH where he led fundraising efforts and IPO preparations for innovative startups. His leadership, guidance and close communication with management teams helped Japanese startups strengthen their businesses and positioned them for success in public markets. Makio joins Indus from Soul Ventures, a venture capital firm focused on the consumer internet, software and financial technologies industries, where he served as Head of Japan.
“Indus is a pioneer in Asian equities investing with a stellar reputation for excellence and a deep commitment to research and corporate responsibility,” said Mr. Inui. “It's an honor to be joining the firm, especially as it celebrates its 25th anniversary. I look forward to working closely with the Portfolio Managers, the broader Tokyo team and my new colleagues across Indus's offices as we look to broaden and enhance our relationships with stakeholders in Japan and globally.”
Mr. Inui began his career at Salomon Brothers, ultimately serving as Managing Director where he advised on and oversaw numerous historic transactions, including NTT DoCoMo IPO and state public offerings in furtherance of the privatization of NTT. He subsequently served as the Head of Asian Telecom Research at UBS and was recognized 16 times on the annual Institutional Investor ranking of top sell-side analysts. Mr. Inui holds a Bachelor of Law from Sophia University.
