Birmingham Legion FC is bringing the classroom to the pitch this fall with its first ever Education Day match when it takes on the Tampa Bay Rowdies on Wednesday, September 17 at Protective Stadium. Presented by Shipt, the midweek matchup will feature a morning kickoff time of 11:30 a.m. CT, but students will be invited to enter the stadium early when gates open at 10:00 a.m. with the first 1,000 students to receive a free t-shirt upon entry.

This unique experience will blend learning with live professional soccer as the club aims to highlight the role sports can play in inspiring learning, teamwork and curiosity outside the classroom.
“Not only will the kids get a great educational experience, but it'll also provide the opportunity for some of them to see professional soccer for the first time in their lives.” says LegionFC Chief Business Officer Nick Hall, “Our plan is to grow this Education Day initiative year after year, and for it to be a staple for all kids in the Birmingham area.”
Students are invited to attend with an offer of discounted tickets along with a free lunch included, courtesy ofShipt and McWane Inc. Those that are interested in attending can sign up their school or youth group HERE.
As part of the festivities, the Protective Stadium concourse and North Terrace will be transformed into an interactive learning hub with local departments and businesses setting up a wide array of engaging and educational booths for the kids to enjoy both before and during the match. Activities include a series of science experiments led by theMcWane Science Center, show and tell with Birmingham Fire and Rescue, engineering displays presented by Young Engineers-Over the Mountain, a crafts table with the Birmingham Museum of Art, a weathercast station with WBRC News and more.
Tickets are also available to purchasefor parents that would like to attend the match with their child.
Education Day is the next in the lineup of exciting LegionFC fan promotions as the club closes out its 2025 home schedule. Following its matchup against Tampa Bay, the next chance to catch the club at Protective Stadium will be on October 1 against North Carolina FC for Everybody Wins on Wednesday. It then hosts Miami FC on October 19 for a special Fan Appreciation Match with the first 1,000 fans through the gates to receive a replica Lady Electra kit, courtesy of Pegasus Luxury Transport.
