The Fellow ofACRM distinction is awarded to ACRM members who have an outstanding record of service to the organization and have made contributions of national significance to the field of medical rehabilitation science and practice. Mr. Harris has demonstrated outstanding service to ACRM including clinical, research, and administrative contributions including introducing the field of Neurologic Music Therapy (NMT) at the ACRM Annual Conference in 2015 and co-founding and serving as Chair of the Arts and Neuroscience Networking Group.
Mr. Harris began his career by founding the NMT program at Spaulding Rehabilitation Hospital in Boston, MA, and grew it into the most comprehensive program of its kind in the country. He then founded MedRhythms to better address the large and growing need to provide NMT services. To date, MedRhythms clinicians have performed over 75,000 hours of direct patient care. Based upon this world-leading domain expertise and under Harris' leadership, MedRhythms developed the world's first prescription music platform, focused on delivering rhythmic auditory stimulation (RAS), to improve walking for people with neurologic injury and disease. Two FDA-authorized, prescription medical devices have been developed using the platform: InTandem® to improve walking and ambulation for adults with chronic stroke and MOVIVE™ to support gait rehabilitation and motor function for people living with Parkinson's disease (PD). Both InTandem and MOVIVE enable at-home delivery of RAS, without the need of a clinician present, allowing greater access and impact of this important intervention. The MedRhythms platform delivers RAS using familiar music due to a first-of-its-kind partnership with Universal Music Group (UMG), who possess the world's largest music catalog.
Mr. Harris will be formally inducted as a 2025 ACRM Fellow during the organization's annual conference, the world's largest interdisciplinary rehabilitation research event, taking place this fall.
As a further testament to his cross-industry leadership, Mr. Brian Harris was selected as a professional member of the Recording Academy's Class of 2025, becoming the first music therapist selected for the Academy's global community. The Recording Academy is a global community of creators and professionals who are shaping the future of music, and the organization behind The GRAMMY® Awards.
“Brian's selection as a 2025 ACRM Fellow and as a professional member of the Recording Academy signifies an important recognition of his work demonstrating the strong connections between music and health,” said Larry Jasinski, CEO of MedRhythms. “His work as a clinician, researcher, advocate, and entrepreneur has changed what is possible for people living with neurologic injury and disease. Congratulations to Brian on these recognitions of his tremendous work.”
