The mapping initiative will equip every South Carolina public school with accurate, accessible, and GIS-enabled mapping data, fully integrated into the systems schools and first responders already use.
Critical Response Group, Inc. (CRG), the nation's leader in critical incident mapping data, announced today that it has been awarded a statewide contract by the South Carolina Department of Education to deliver field-validated, GIS-enabled, and universally accessible mapping data for every K-12 public school across the state.

This initiative represents a significant step forward in school safety and emergency preparedness, ensuring that first responders, school districts, and public safety agencies across South Carolina will have access to highly accurate, standardized mapping data designed to improve coordination and reduce response times during critical incidents.
Over the next 6 months, CRG will map more than 1,200 South Carolina schools, conducting on-site walkthroughs of every campus to verify floor plans, label critical features, and capture site-specific details for the highest level of accuracy. These Collaborative Response Graphics® (CRGs®) combine verified floor plans, critical landmarks and features, high-resolution aerial imagery, and a gridded overlay into a single, intuitive format designed for real-world emergency response.
While many mapping solutions are built around proprietary software platforms that limit accessibility, CRG delivers a data-centric, system-agnostic approach designed to integrate seamlessly into more than 100 public safety and school security platforms – including South Carolina's existing 911 systems, GIS platforms, and security technologies. This ensures responders and school leaders have instant access to the information they need without relying on separate portals or costly add-ons. Importantly, CRG's approach requires no additional user licensing or integration fees, making adoption seamless for schools and agencies statewide.
“Protecting students and staff starts with giving responders the tools they need to act quickly and confidently during an emergency,” said Mike Rodgers, CEO of Critical Response Group. “We are honored to partner with the South Carolina Department of Education to deliver a solution that strengthens preparedness and ensures every school is safer and more secure.”
“CRG is deeply grateful for the leadership of Superintendent Ellen Weaver, whose unwavering commitment to innovation and student safety has made this statewide initiative possible. Her drive to bring cutting-edge technology into South Carolina schools ensures that educators and students can focus on what matters most, teaching and learning in a safe, secure environment,” Rodgers added.
CRG brings a proven national track record to this initiative, having mapped more than 22,000 schools across 42 states and supported 15+ statewide mapping programs, including efforts in New Jersey, Virginia, Delaware, Wisconsin, and Michigan. The company has completed mapping for 40 of the nation's 100 largest school districts, including Greenville County School District, the largest in South Carolina.
CRG's solution was developed by a team of U.S. Special Operations veterans, public safety professionals, and educators who have relied on these techniques in high-pressure environments. Each CRG is designed to provide a common operating picture for everyone involved in an emergency, enabling educators, first responders, dispatchers, and public safety agencies to coordinate instantly and act decisively when every second counts.
