The TightRope® SB (soft button) implant was awarded gold, the highest honor in its category of Healthcare Environment and Patient Care Solutions. Set to launch in Fall 2025, the suture-based implant is designed to be the first device for anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) reconstruction utilizing all-suture buttons.

“As our latest product development in knee ligament arthroscopy, the team is pleased to see TightRope SB receive this prestigious award ahead of our official product launch,” said Arthrex Senior Director of Knee and Hip Product Management Jake Jolly.

Historically, ACL reconstruction required some form of hard, foreign material, such as titanium, polyetheretherketone (PEEK) or plastic, in various shapes and sizes. These previous designs were safe and effective but occasionally could lead to complications requiring a second surgery for hardware removal.

“We are looking forward to seeing how many patients will benefit from this truly innovative, less invasive solution for ACL reconstruction by eliminating issues caused by traditional methods, such as metal allergies and hardware complications,” said Arthrex Knee Ligament Group Product Manager Justin Boyle. “This approach will ultimately allow for better surgical outcomes, enabling patients to walk away with a more natural feeling knee and no hard materials to contend with in the future.”

In the Innovative Surgical Solutions category, the NanoScopic™ Release system won a bronze Edison Award for its endoscopic approach to carpal tunnel surgery. By combining the NanoNeedle Scope's chip-on-tip technology with the Centerline Carpal Tunnel release device, NanoScopic cuts down on costly operative room equipment and has proven to greatly improve efficiencies.

“We are proud to receive recognition for the NanoScopic Release system in helping to streamline the way hand and wrist surgeons handle carpal tunnel cases,” said Arthrex Hand and Wrist Group Product Manager RJ Choinski. “Most importantly, this revolutionary technology can enable office-based procedures and can be performed under local anesthesia, which in turn benefits the patient's overall recovery and furthers the Arthrex mission of Helping Surgeons Treat Their Patients Better®.”

The Edison Awards honor businesses, executives and inventors who have created innovative products and services that not only solve problems but also seize an opportunity to create a new market. The awards are named after Southwest Florida winter resident Thomas Edison, who died in 1931.

In 2021, President and Founder Reinhold Schmiedingwon the Edison Achievement Award for his accomplishments, including pioneering the field of arthroscopy and leading the product development and marketing of Arthrex's products and related surgical techniques. Reinhold personally holds more than 100 patents and has led the issuance of over 1,800 patents and patents pending for Arthrex. Previous winners of the Edison Achievement Award include Elon Musk and Steve Jobs.

That same year, Arthrex also won three gold awards for OrthoPedia, the InternalBrace™ 2.0 ligament augmentation repair systemand for Nano arthroscopy.

In 2022, Arthrex was honored with a bronze award for its MIS (Minimally Invasive Surgery) Bunionectomy procedure.
