SchubertJonckheer & Kolbe LLP is investigating a data breach impacting the sensitive personal information of users of Tea, a dating safety app that allows women to share information about the men they have dated.
On July 25, 2025, Tea confirmed that an unauthorized actor exploited an exposed database on Google's firebase platform, leaking about 72,000 images, including 13,000 selfies and photo identifications submitted for account verification purposes, as well as 59,000 images from posts, comments, and direct messages.
Tea had initially reported that the breach only impacted information uploaded by its users prior to February 2024.
On July 28, 2025, an additional database was found containing 1.1 million private messages sent between users on the Tea platform as recently as last week. Any Tea user was able to access the stored user data using their own API keyuntil Tea decided to take the affected direct messaging system completely offline.
If your personal information was impacted by this incident, you may be at risk of identity theft and other serious violations of your privacy. As a result, you may be entitled to money damages and an injunction requiring changes to Tea's cybersecurity practices.
If you received notification of this data breach or are a user of Tea and wish to obtain additional information about your legal rights, please contact ustoday or visit our website at https://www.classactionlawyers.com/teaapp.
