“Quincy and Eyal are joining Chainguard at a pivotal time for the company. Organizations from the Fortune 500 to government agencies to the fastest-growing AI startups are turning to Chainguard to reduce engineering toil and security risks so they can get back to building and innovating for their customers,” said Dan Lorenc, CEO and Co-founder, Chainguard. “As we enter this next phase of growth, Quincy will help us continue to deliver trustworthy security outcomes for our customers and the broader software supply chain ecosystem, and Eyal will bring even more operational excellence and rigor across the business. Plus, they're both awesome people and a lot of fun to work with.”
Expanded leadership team fuels the next phase of growth
As CISO, Castro will be responsible for leading the company's security strategy and posture across IT, information security, and product security. Castro will work closely with teams across the business, customers, and partners to proactively mitigate risks and ensure Chainguard remains ahead of emerging threats. Castro spent the past four years as CISO of Redis, a leader in open source software, and he brings deep experience in offensive and defensive security from roles at the NSA and private industry. More recently, Castro led security functions at Fortune 500 organizations, including GE Transportation and Wabtec Corporation.
“Chainguard is one of those rare companies offering a better, faster, cheaper trifecta that makes it a no-brainer for organizations at every stage of growth. As AI changes how software is built and infrastructure is managed, Chainguard is even better positioned for the future as it helps secure these highly ephemeral environments,” said Quincy Castro, CISO, Chainguard. “My job is to make life as hard as possible for bad actors and as easy as possible for everyone else. That means preserving the trust of our customers and delivering secure outcomes so they can focus on building, knowing we have their backs.”
As CFO, Bar brings to Chainguard more than 16 years of financial and operational leadership experience from high-growth technology companies. He will oversee Chainguard's financial strategy, operations, and planning as the company accelerates its go-to-market efforts and global expansion. Bar previously served in senior finance roles at global companies, including Monday.com, where he helped grow the company from $18 million to $1.2 billion in annual recurring revenue and steered the company through its successful Nasdaq IPO, as well as Motorola Solutions, Ernst & Young, and Wix.com.
“Chainguard combines market scale, product ingenuity, deep customer trust, and relentless execution. Scaling a company that already sets the standard for software supply chain security into its next chapter of high-velocity growth is an opportunity I couldn't resist,” said Eyal Bar, CFO, Chainguard. “Together with Dan and the leadership team, I'll focus on strategic financial management that strengthens our business architecture and operational muscle, so every function – go-to-market, product, engineering, and beyond – moves faster and smarter. By maximizing ROI and unlocking new revenue opportunities, we'll turn today's momentum into durable, industry‑shaping leadership.”
Investing in culture to scale with excellence
As Chainguard continues to grow, the company remains committed to building an inclusive, high-performing culture. Chainguard recently promoted Grace Shiell to Vice President of People, recognizing her leadership in supporting teams and building out the company's people programs during a period of rapid expansion. Chainguard was also certified as a Great Place to Work®, reflecting its dedication to fostering an environment where employees feel valued, supported, and empowered to do their best work.
New innovation and customer success fuel company momentum
The appointments of Castro and Bar and promotion of Shiell bolster Chainguard's leadership team as the company scales to meet customer demand, deepens its security investments, and reinforces its position as the leader in secure software development and deployment. Chainguard has experienced significant momentum in recent months as organizations adopt trusted open source software, including:
— A growing catalog of container images: Chainguard Containers is a catalog of minimal, zero-CVE container images that are built from source and rebuilt daily with SBOMs, SLSA provenance, and Sigstore signatures by default. Today, Chainguard offers more than 1,500 images in its catalog, covering the majority of modern application stacks, including programming languages, CI/CD infrastructure, databases, observability tools, developer tools, AI applications, and more.
— Recent customer wins and expansions: Across industries and at every stage of growth – from innovative upstarts to Fortune 500 leaders – organizations like Appian, BMC Helix, Cribl, Fortinet, the Norwegian Labour and Welfare Administration, and Tecsys are turning to Chainguard to help them secure their software supply chains.
— Expanded global reach through cloud marketplaces: Chainguard is now available on all major cloud provider marketplaces – Microsoft Azure, AWS, and GCP – making it easier than ever for customers to adopt Chainguard Containers directly within their existing procurement and deployment workflows.
— New partnerships and integrations: Chainguard recently announced a partnership with Azul, which brings Azul's curated OpenJDK® distributions to the Chainguard Catalog, delivering the minimal, zero-CVE images customers expect from Chainguard alongside Azul's world-class commercial support. Through a new integration with Orca Security, joint Chainguard and Orca customers can scan for vulnerabilities in Chainguard container images, helping vulnerability management teams focus remediation efforts on the most impactful issues.
— Commitment to the open source community: The Chainguard team continues to lead and contribute to foundational projects like Sigstore, SLSA, and more, while also launching Container Hardening Priorities (CHPs), which provides concrete criteria for assessing the security of container images. Chainguard also recently forked Kaniko, a tool that enables building Docker images inside Kubernetes clusters without privileged containers. The company will maintain Kaniko and help triage long-standing issues for the organizations that depend on it.
With its recent leadership appointments and a continued focus on creating a culture of innovation, Chainguard is poised to accelerate its mission to be the safe source for open source, empowering organizations around the world to build software better.
