“Boundless Freedom Weekend helps veterans build community and find healing through sports,” said Sharon Bucey, ASC President and CEO. “Veterans who have experienced trauma from combat benefit from physical activity and outdoor recreation. Sports is a powerful tool that ultimately enhances their overall well-being.”
Veterans and their families will participate in a variety of activities, including Jiu-Jitsu, waterskiing, FlingGolf, a fishing derby, and more. This year's event takes place at Recreation Unlimited, a 195-acre accessible outdoor campus located in Ashley, Ohio. Boundless Freedom weekend is free for veterans and their families, which includes meals, accessible lodging, and activities.
This special weekend kicks off on Friday, August 1 with acclaimed speaker Dr. Ronald “Jake”Clark. Jake is a U.S. Army veteran who served with the California Army National Guard. His remarkable career includes time with the U.S. Secret Service, the Los Angeles Police Department, and the FBI. Jake is now President and Founder of Save A Warrior, a nationally recognized program focused on reintegration and suicide prevention for veterans and first responders.
“It's a privilege to share my personal story with the hope that it helps other veterans through their recovery journey,” said Jake. “These conversations and connections are what helped me and I'm honored to be a part of such an innovative weekend to honor my fellow veterans.”
