NEW YORK, NY / ACCESS Newswire / February 24, 2025 / Charleston Area Medical Center recently disclosed that it suffered a data breach that compromised the sensitive personal and protected health data of individuals.This data breach has led to concerns over the security of sensitive personal and protected health information entrusted to CAMC.

WHAT’S THIS ABOUT?

On October 2, 2024, Charleston Area Medical Center became aware of a security incident involving a phishing attack on its email system. Upon detection, CAMC launched an investigation with the assistance of third-party cybersecurity experts to determine the nature and scope of the incident. The investigation concluded that an unauthorized third party gained access to a single CAMC user’s email mailbox between October 2, 2024, and October 3, 2024. Following a comprehensive review of the affected mailbox, CAMC determined that certain individuals’ sensitive information may have been compromised.

Upon information and belief, the following types of sensitive personal and protected health information may have been compromised as a result of the data breach:first and last name, email address, Social Security number, medical information, date of birth, email address, phone number, driver’s license information, and health insurance information.On February 14, 2025, CAMC filed a notice with the Attorney General of Massachusetts and began sending out notice letters to impacted individuals.Compensation may be available for those individuals who received notice that their personal information was compromised.
