This data breach has led to concerns over the security of sensitive personal information entrusted to San Francisco-Marin Food Bank.

WHAT’S THIS ABOUT?

On May 31, 2024, San Francisco-Marin Food Bank became aware of a security incident on its IT network. In response, the organization immediately launched an investigation and engaged third-party cybersecurity experts to determine the nature and scope of the incident. Upon investigation, San Francisco-Marin Food Bank determined that an unauthorized third party gained access to its network between May 10, 2024, and May 30, 2024, and may have acquired certain files. The organization conducted a comprehensive review of the impacted data to determine what information was compromised and how many individuals were impacted. On January 7, 2025, the organization completed its review and began confirming address information to notify individuals.

Upon information and belief, the following types of sensitive personal information may have been compromised as a result of the data breach: name, date of birth and Social Security number. On February 4, 2025, San Francisco-Marin Food Bank filed a notice with the Maine Attorney General’s Office and started sending out notice letters to the affected individuals. Compensation may be available for those individuals who received notice that their personal information was compromised.
