NEW YORK CITY, NY / ACCESS Newswire / December 18, 2025 / VITAS Hospice Services, LLC ("VITAS") recently suffered a data breach that compromised the sensitive personal and protected health information of individuals. This data breach has led to concerns over the security of sensitive personal and protected health information entrusted to VITAS.
WHAT’S THIS ABOUT?
On October 24, 2025, VITAS became aware of a security incident involving the compromise of one of its vendor’s accounts. Upon detection, VITAS launched an investigation with the assistance of third-party cybersecurity experts to determine the nature and scope of the incident. The investigation determined that an unauthorized third party gained access to VITAS systems between approximately September 21 and October 27, 2025, and was able to access and download information related to patients and former patients. VITAS conducted a thorough review of the data to determine the scope and affected individuals.
The impacted information may include contact information (such as name, address, date of birth, phone number), Social Security numbers, driver’s license numbers, next of kin contact information (such as name, phone number and email), medical information (such as diagnosis, medications, lab results, and other information about health conditions and treatments), insurance information (such as insurance ID and Group ID numbers), and other personal information.
On November 21, VITAS filed notice with the Attorney General of Texas and began notifying impacted individuals and providing support resources. Compensation may be available for those individuals who receive notice that their sensitive personal information was compromised.
