“At American Century, we believe making clients successful will make us successful, leading us to continuously strive to ensure our investment offerings evolve to meet the needs and preferences of our clients,” said Victor Zhang, chief investment officer. “We're delighted to launch two fundamental active small cap transparentETFs and offer clients options in a segment of the market with limited choices. ACSG and ACSV combine our expertise with disciplined portfolio construction to offer robust, repeatable and resilient paths to seeking alpha. These offerings marry our long history of successful stock selection in small caps with the attributes of ETFs many investors prefer with the goal of optimizing portfolio construction.”
Fundamental research coupled with ETF advantagesThe Small Cap Insights ETFs leverage stock selection processes from American Century's established and experienced small cap growth and small cap value teams to deliver investment strategies well suited for the liquidity, capacity, tax-efficiency and pricing expectations of the ETF marketplace. Managers of the funds employ a bottom-up stock selection process utilizing proprietary fundamental research and systematic, risk aware portfolio construction to invest primarily in U.S. small cap companies. ACSG seeks companies with accelerating growth rates and strong or improving business fundamentals, and ACSV seeks companies that are higher quality businesses selling at a discount to fair value.
ACSG is co-managed by Senior Portfolio Managers Jackie Wagner and Jeff Hoernemann, and Stephen Quance, chief investment officer of disciplined equity, head of analytics and strategy implementation. ACSV is co-managed by Portfolio Manager Ryan Cope and Quance. The American Century small cap equities team oversees $48 billion in assets under management (AUM).**
“Small caps offer ample opportunities for price discovery,” said Quance. “ACSG and ACSV combine the deep, bottom-up research experience of American Century's seasoned small cap growth and small cap value teams with quantitative tools to optimize portfolio construction, enhance tax efficiency and minimize transaction costs through efficient ETF execution.”
American Century introduced its ETF program in 2018 to provide clients with lower-cost, tax-efficient investment strategies. Today, American Century is the fourth-largest issuer of active ETFs in the United States.1

Alpha is typically used to represent the value added or subtracted by active investment management strategies. It shows how an actively managed investment portfolio performed compared with the expected portfolio returns produced simply by benchmark volatility (beta) and market changes. A positive alpha shows that an investment manager has been able to capture more of the upside movement in the benchmark while softening the downswings. A negative alpha means that the manager's strategies have caught more benchmark downside than upside.
