Mukumoto brings more than four decades of experience in forestry, Tribal enterprise leadership, and public service to ITC. His distinguished career includes serving as Oregon State Forester, where he managed a $650 million annual budget and a workforce of more than 1,300 employees while advancing forest health, sustainability, and economic value for the state. He also served as CEO and Board Chair of the Coquille Economic Development Corporation, overseeing casino, broadband, and other Tribal business ventures, and leading them through critical periods of growth and stability.
His professional roots trace back to the 1980s with the Makah Tribal Council, where he helped establish the Makah Forestry Enterprise, improving Tribal timber sale profitability by more than 26 percent. Mukumoto has worked extensively with Tribes nationwide, providing management, marketing, and planning services, including coordination of the first two Indian Forest Management Assessment Teams (IFMATs). His long-standing history with ITC began during this time, and in 1988 he was recognized with ITC's Northwest Award for Outstanding Service to Indian Forestry.
“I am honored to return to ITC in this new role,” said Mukumoto. “From the beginning of my career, I have seen the critical importance of Tribal leadership in forest management, not just for the health of our lands, but for the cultural, economic, and environmental well-being of Native communities. I look forward to supporting ITC's mission and the future of Tribal forestry.”
Mukumoto holds a Bachelor of Science in Forest Management from Humboldt State University and an MBA from the University of Washington. He has also served on numerous boards, including the Oregon State Board of Forestry, Oregon Parks and Recreation Commission, and the Forest Stewardship Council.
“Cal has a distinguished career in forest management and a history with ITC that dates back to the 1980s,” said ITC President Cody Desautel. “We are thrilled to welcome his leadership, experience, and vision to strengthen our organization and advance the voice of Tribal forestry.”
