Each year in the U.S., underage drinking contributes to more than 4,300 deaths among people below the age of 21. Through the Power of You(th) program, Amica and MADD have worked hand in hand to reach middle and high schoolers across the country with a simple but powerful message: Your choices matter.
This partnership is more than a sponsorship; it's a shared commitment to saving lives. By supportingMADD's research-based programming and outreach initiatives, Amica is helping equip teens with the knowledge and confidence to say no to alcohol and other drugs, and to never ride with an impaired driver.
“We're proud to recognize Amica's dedication to this life-saving cause,” said Catrina Clemens, Vice President of Strategic Initiatives at MADD. “Since our partnership began in 2020, their support has deeply underscored a belief in prevention, safety, and the power of youth to lead change.”
From school presentations and peer-to-peer education to national campaigns that amplify youth voices, this collaboration is giving teens the tools they need to take ownership of their future and protect their communities in the process. Encouragingly, recent data from the 2023 Youth Risk Behavior Survey shows a decline in the number of high school students who report riding with a driver who had been drinking-dropping from around 16% in previous years to 11%. While there is still work to be done, this progress suggests that continued education and prevention efforts-like those supported through the Power of You(th)® program with Amica-are making a meaningful difference.
“At Amica, we believe in supporting the well-being of the communities we serve, and there's no greater investment than in the safety of our youth,” said Ted Shallcross, President and CEO of Amica Insurance. “Our long-standing partnership with MADD reflects that belief. We're proud to continue our support for their vital work, giving teens the tools they need to stand up to risky behavior and create a safer future for everyone.”
The MADD's Power of You(th) program has reached over a million young people from coast to coast since its inception 13 years ago. For more information about Power of You(th), visit madd.org/powerofyouth.
