Healthy eyes and quality vision are important for reading, writing, and learning in the classroom. Vision issues left undiagnosed can lead to learning disabilities and delays in academic development. That's where vision screening comes in. Kids don't always realize that they have vision problems and often assume that everyone else sees the world the same way that they do. That is why regular vision screenings are so important.
All children should have access to eye exams, regardless of their financial position. That is why the Children's Eye Foundation of American Association for Pediatric Ophthalmology and Strabismus (CEF of AAPOS) created the All Children See program, providing an opportunity for kids who are uninsured or underinsured to receive a no-cost comprehensive eye exam from a volunteer pediatric ophthalmologist in their area.
In this segment, Dr. Cate Jordan explains the importance of vision screenings for kids heading back to the classroom. She also shares details about the All Children See program, and discusses early warning signs that may indicate a child is experiencing vision problems, including:
— Not reading at grade level
— Misaligned eyes
— Squinting when trying to read from across the room
