“As a family law attorney, I see a lot of cases where parenting time is dependent on a parent having proper furniture, rooms, and space for the children,” Richards explained. “To partner with a nonprofit that specifically helps families get the things kids need felt like a natural extension of my work. Plus, I know the support goes directly back into our Metro Detroit community.”
Real Impact for Local Families
Richards' sponsorship helps the Furniture Bank provide entire bedroom sets for multiple children in the Metro Detroit area.
“Because of my sponsorship, they're able to provide a full bedroom set for multiple children,” she said. “That means a safe place to sleep, to study, and to grow.”
A Cause Close to Home
Richards' connection to the Furniture Bank began through a neighbor and longtime family friend who serves as the nonprofit's CEO. The partnership grew naturally from shared values and a commitment to strengthening the community.
“This isn't just where I work,” Richards noted. “It's where I live, where my kids have community. Anything I can do to make our community better makes it better for all of us.”

The 2025 Furniture Flip Bash brought together local celebrities, vendors, and artists, with Hilary Farr from HGTV's Love It or List It lending her expertise as a featured judge.
“Having someone like Hilary Farr involved is huge,” Richards said. “Her presence draws people in and highlights the creativity and purpose behind the event.”

“Knowing where to send families for help is critical,” Richards shared. “The Furniture Bank is one example, but through connections with board members and other local leaders, I can point clients toward resources for housing, food, or safety. That's just as important as the legal work we do.”

“It's a great charity with direct involvement in our community,” she said. “They're giving families not just a bed or a dresser, but the ability to have a good night's sleep and be prepared for school or work the next day. That sets families up for long-term success.”
