As National Recovery Month begins, new report shows 52% drop in hospitalizations – defying national SUD trends
Crossroads Treatment Centers (Crossroads), a leading national provider of comprehensive, evidence-based care for people affected by substance use disorders (SUDs), released their inaugural Annual Outcomes Report, highlighting results from 2024 and trends from the 300,000 patients served by Crossroads, including 35,926 new patients in 2024.

The report provides a data-driven summary of Crossroads' work in 2024 and prior years, focusing on tangible improvements made to patients' lives as they navigate their recovery journey. Nationally, behavioral health interventions have been shown to reduce emergency department visits by up to 21% and inpatient hospitalizations by nearly 37%. Patients engaged with Crossroads' services have experienced a 52% decrease in hospitalization rates.
“In 2024, we made enormous strides-not only in scaling our model but also in proving its effectiveness,” said Dr. Rupert J. McCormac IV, MD, Founder & CEO of Crossroads. “After 20 years of service, our data confirms what we've long believed: when you meet people where they are, remove barriers to care and pair accountability with compassion, recovery becomes possible at scale.”
A key driver of Crossroads' commitment to immediate, lifesaving care is theirInstant Intake® service, which connects patients to same-call virtual visits and evaluations from the very first call. Recognizing the courage to seek help often comes at a critical moment, Crossroads meets patients where they are and removes traditional barriers to access like transportation. Last year, 6,250 patients utilized the Instant Intake service, benefiting from an average wait time of less than 10 minutes to see a provider. The service also enables the initiation of medication-based recovery support during the same interaction, accelerating the path to recovery and ensuring individuals receive the help they need exactly when they need it most.
Other notable Crossroads statistics from 2024 include:
— A total of 2.9 million visits in 2024 across both in-person and digital platforms, demonstrating extensive patient engagement with Crossroads' SUD care services.
— Over 647,000 digital health screenings performed with patients in 2024, supporting early detection and personalized treatment strategies.
Thereport's release coincides with National Recovery Month, which is recognized each September to raise awareness about SUDs and provide support for those in recovery. Crossroads is leveraging this month to educate communities and individuals about treatment options and the growing need for accessible, effective SUD care-an issue affecting more than 48.4 million people nationally in the past year.
“Crossroads met me with open arms when I was ready to change,” said Stevon, a Crossroads patient now in recovery for nearly a year. “Every time I needed structure and support, they were there. Thanks to them, I've been able to get my life back-I'm working, reconnecting with family and finally feeling like myself again.
“Every day, the team at Crossroads works to break down barriers to care, provide evidence-based treatment and offer compassionate, judgment-free support to those affected by substance use disorder,” said Dr. Jerome M. Adams, MD, MPH, Former Surgeon General and member of the Crossroads Board of Directors.
