This event celebrates the Museum's recent move to its stunning new location at2940 Riverby Rd., Suite #200, Houston, TX 77020, and underscores its commitment to serving as a dynamic space for maritime education, art, and community engagement.
From5:00 PM to 7:00 PM, guests are invited to experience the intersection of environmental innovation and artistic expression. The evening begins with a lecture byBruce Race, PhD, FAIA, FAICP, Director of the Center for Sustainability and Resilience (CeSAR) at the University of Houston'sGerald D. Hines School of Architecture and Design. His presentation,”Legacy Maritime Districts, Placemaking, and Net Zero Targets,”will explore how Houston's maritime heritage can shape a more resilient and sustainable future.
Dr. Race is a national leader in climate action and resilience planning, making this lecture especially timely with Houston Energy and Climate Weekapproaching. His Smart Ship Channel research and community development projects exemplify cutting-edge thinking in net-zero energy strategies and urban design. His Houston projects have been awarded the 2021 and 2022 Texas APAGold Award for Resilience. He brings decades of award-winning experience in community engagement, sustainable development, comprehensive planning, and research at the intersection of climate policy and urban infrastructure.
Following the lecture, attendees will enjoy the opening reception for”Maritime Time”, an exhibition and art sale runningAugust 23 – October 31, 2025, in partnership with theHouston Visual Artist Network. Featuring over a dozen local artists, the show reflects Houston's maritime spirit through diverse visual interpretations. Participating artists include Liz Plaster, Ruby R Scott, Deborah Ellington, Melody Locke, Jaime Frontiera, Karla Cisneros, Janice Jackson, Elaine Lanoue, Coral Salvino, Maryanne Keeling, Diana Marie Waguespack, Rona Lesser, Cheryl Russell and Suzanne Buckland.
