AccessLex Institute Celebrates Five Years and Continued Momentum of LexScholars Diversity Pathway Programs

AccessLex Institute® is proud to report continued momentum and results for the three diversity pathway programs comprising LexScholars by AccessLex®. The programs – LexPreLaw, LexPostBacc, and LexPostBacc Direct – provide talented and driven individuals from underrepresented backgrounds with the opportunity to pursue their dreams of attending law school.

Since 2020, more than 1,200 aspiring law students have received resources, exposure, and guidance through LexScholars. The programs target aspiring law students who are unlikely to otherwise gain admission due to low LSAT scores and other characteristics commonly viewed as deficits.

LexPreLaw supports aspiring law students through the admission process, offering counseling, LSAT preparation, and financial assistance. Forty-five percent (45%) of 2022-23 LexPreLaw participants who applied to law school received admission offers;this is compared to10% of applicants nationwide with comparable credentials.

More than 160 LexPreLaw alumni have been admitted to law school and 92% of them have completed their 1L year in good academic standing.

LexPostBacc prepares aspiring law students for the academic and financial rigors of law school. Participants, called Scholars, are referred to the program by partnering law schools and are exposed to a rigorous 10-month law school prep curriculum. After successfully completing the program, Scholars enroll in partnering law schools with the benefit of a scholarship and a stipend.

More than 120 LexPostBacc Scholars have enrolled in law school. Ninety-four percent (94%) of 2023-24 Scholars who met all LexPostBacc benchmarksfinished their first year of law school in good academic standing.

LexPostBacc Direct allows aspiring law students to gain access to the 10-month LexPostBacc curriculum without securing a law school referral. Launched in 2025, the inaugural cohort of 62 LexPostBacc Direct Scholars are now empowered to increase their chances of law school admission and success.

“We take great pride in the roles that our LexScholars programs play in broadening law school opportunity,” said Aaron N. Taylor, Senior Vice President and Executive Director of the AccessLex Center for Legal Education Excellence®. “The programs target aspiring students whose talents have been overlooked. Their favorable performance in law school validates our focus and contributes much to the betterment of legal education, the legal profession, and society.”

All three LexScholars programs serve AccessLex Institute's mission of empowering the next generation of lawyers by increasing law school access and expanding representation.
