On Saturday, July 19,Montrose Auction will roll out a 550-lot arsenal of American and European firearms specifically assembled with today's quality-conscious collectors in mind. Superlative workmanship and stellar condition are the watchwords that define the auction lineup throughout, with a selection that includes some of the most desirable rifles, shotguns and handguns available in today's marketplace, many coming from old private collections. Leading the highlights is a Blaser 12 gauge F3 over/under shotgun with a sporting sideplate receiver, 30-inch raised-vent rib barrel, 3-inch chambers, and single selective trigger with ejectors. Its French grey receiver has been profusely engraved by Bonsi Brothers in their Heritage (vine & scroll) pattern. The gun has varnished checkered pistol grips and competition stock of highly figured burl walnut with a matching forearm and comes complete with five extended choke tubes, a wrench, takedown tools and barrel weights. Mechanically excellent and in exceptionally fine condition with little or no use evident, it will convey in its fine factory luggage case with factory slip cases. Estimate: $6,000-$9,500
A top prize amongst the rifles is a Strasser Evolution RS 14 sporting bolt-action model chambered for 6.5 Creedmoor. It has highly figured and marbled oil-finished walnut stocks, a blue-finish takedown, single-set trigger, and a straight pull design with a detachable magazine. This mechanically-excellent gun shows no indications of ever having been used and comes with a factory takedown luggage case. Estimate: $3,500-$4,500
One of only 401 of its type produced and shipped in 1898, a scarce Colt .44-40 caliber Lightning slide rifle is marked “S.F.P. 13” on its lower tang, an abbreviation for “San Francisco Police 13.” It has a 26-inch round barrel with oil-finished walnut stocks, a crescent butt plate and German silver blade front sight with a factory sporting elevation adjustable rear sight. The barrel is marked with the traditional 2-line Colt address, while the chamber is marked “44 CAL.” The manufacturer's Rampant Colt monogram appears on the left side of the receiver. Antique rifles of this type are highly desirable but rarely encountered. In very fine condition and mechanically excellent, its estimate is $2,500-$4,500.
From Alchemy Custom Prime Weaponry of Fort Wayne, Indiana, a 9mm 1911 pistol has a 5-inch barrel, blue finish with combat sights, and a skeletonized hammer with checkered front and back straps. It has a beavertail safety with match barrel. Graded excellent with no indication of prior use, it retains its factory carry pouch with instructions, plus a spare factory magazine. Estimate: $2,750-$3,750
