Axar Capital Management LP (“Axar” or the “Firm”), an established opportunistic credit investment firm, announced the appointment of Matt Magnuson as Head of Trading and Capital Solutions. Based in the firm's New York office, Magnuson will report to Grant Mitchell, Deputy Chief Investment Officer and Head of Research.
Magnuson brings over 20 years of experience investing in opportunistic credit across public and private markets. Prior to joining Axar, he served as Managing Director of Special Situations Trading at Macquarie Capital, where he led trading across distressed and event-driven credit. Before that, he spent over a dozen years at Loews Corporation, managing investments in stressed, distressed, and special situations credit.

Magnuson's appointment marks the latest senior addition to Axar's leadership team. In May 2024, the firm appointed David Fisher as Head of Investor Relations and Business Development. Fisher previously spent over 18 years at J.P. Morgan Asset Management, serving its North America institutional business. Additionally, Axar recently elevated Grant Mitchell to Partner, Deputy Chief Investment Officer, and Head of Research, reinforcing its continued investment in top-tier talent.
