NEW YORK, NY / ACCESS Newswire / January 30, 2025 / Mid Atlantic Retinarecentlydisclosed that it suffered a data breach that compromised the sensitive personal and protected health data of individuals. This data breach has led to concerns over the security of sensitive personal and protected health information entrusted to Mid Atlantic Retina.
WHAT’S THIS ABOUT?
On May 12, 2024, Mid Atlantic Retina became aware of a security incident involving one of their vendors, ConnectOnCall.com ("ConnectOnCall"), who experienced an incident that impacted a small subset of Mid Atlantic Retina patients. Mid Atlantic Retina uses ConnectOnCall to assist with their after-hours patient calls. Upon detection, Mid Atlantic Retina launched an investigation with the assistance of third-party cyber security experts to determine the nature and scope of the incident. The investigation determined that between February 16, 2024, and May 12, 2024, an unknown third party had access to ConnectOnCall and certain data within the application, including certain information in provider-patient communications.
Upon information and belief, the following sensitive personal and protected health information may have been compromised in the data breach incident: name, phone number, dates of birth, medical record number, and medical history. On December 11, 2024, Mid Atlantic Retina started sending out notice letters to the impacted individuals. Compensation may be available for those individuals who received notice that their personal information was compromised.
